Our 2020 Mid-year Funding Appeal

These are extraordinary times of upheaval, isolation, and reflection. The confluence of Covid-19, Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and economic upheaval has propelled us to an inflection point inspiring some people to want ‘to return to normal’ and others to bring about real change. We are all coming to realize that change is the only normal.

We have a powerful opportunity to envision and create a better world.

In response, we are developing Sound^Sphere: Creating Community Through Music, our online platform sharing concerts, conversations and educational programs; Soundtracks, Creating Identity, and Discoveries: Hear & Be Heard are all being reimagined for e-Learning. Archival concert videos featuring collaborators Kahil El’Zabar and The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, Markus Stockhausen, poets Stella Binion & Malcolm London, and Contratiempo are shared in live events with artist interviews and conversation. In 2020-21, AuxIn: Connected concerts featuring the rising generation of experimental composers, improvisors and performers will be curated by Dalia Chin and Angel Bat Dawid.

Your generosity makes this all possible. You make the difference.

“Art is human kind’s moral compass”

Fulcrum Point - (C) Aidan Kranz-48.jpg

In 2019, Fulcrum Point New Music Project (FP) presented the 21st Annual Peace Concert on International Human Rights day. During her speech honoring her brother and featured filmmaker Prashant Bhargava, Anurima Bhargava, Civil Rights Attorney and Commissioner to the U.S. Department of International Religious Freedom, stated that “Art is human kind’s moral compass” and that events like the Peace Concert are essential to changing our world for the better.

Through performances like the Annual Peace Concert, Fulcrum Point New Music Project fosters cultural exchange and community building by bringing together artists and audiences of diverse ethnicity, backgrounds, and cultures to illuminate understanding and tolerance. In addition, through FP's educational programs, people of all ages have opportunities to have access to music experiences building leadership, self esteem, and socialization skills. FP is pleased to be part of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot's initiative to ensure equal access of art education to all. We work with Chicago Public Schools to bring music and diverse cultures to students, presenting fresh ways of thinking and communicating.
